Foot Powered Bowl Turning
Bygone Country Skills is dedicated, essentially, to crafts associated with wood. My association with country skills stems back to when I was a small boy working along side my father helping to make Thumbsticks. Since then I have studied long and hard to obtain the skills necessary to continue in my pursuit of Bygone Country Skills. I promote these by demonstrations at public events and workshops for those wishing to learn the skills of our ancestors.
In my
workshops wood turning, woodcarving and the making of items such as rakes, shrink pots and baskets are just a few of the things you can choose. The emphasis is about understanding the tools and techniques used.
At public events throughout the country, my demonstrations provide a visually stimulating attraction. Visitors are shown many of the old working practices. I typically demonstrate the art of producing a bowl or chair leg from a log and an array of items used around the house, carving of spoons and spatulas, steam bending to shape and form the wood for various items plus other additional items of interest. The photograph below depicts a typical set-up which consists of canopy, lathe, shaving horse, chopping block, cleaving break, and a set of hand tools.
If you would like to book a demonstration at your event.
I have £5,000,000.00 Public Liability Insurance, an enhanced DBS check, a risk assessment has been carried out and is reviewed regularly.
In addition to this I have also worked closely with my local council in providing
wood sculptures of owls, hares, santa's, wood spirits, dolphins, signs and caricatures which can be seen in a number of parks in the Winkfield area. Private commissions have been taken over a wider area.
